ABOUT US

Our Story

GivePower UT is a student-led organization at The University of Texas at Austin dedicated to advancing clean energy and clean water access worldwide. We unite students from technical and non-technical backgrounds — engineers, business students, designers, policy advocates, and communicators — to raise awareness, fundraise, and lead initiatives that send Longhorns on life-changing treks to build solar-powered systems delivering clean water and energy to those who need them most.

The GivePower Foundation has changed the lives of over 1.7 million people across 28 countries. Our goal is to empower a diverse team of future leaders to take direct, creative action against the global water and energy crises.

UT GivePower is the University of Texas at Austin chapter of the GivePower Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose headquarters sit right here in Austin. We are a student-run organization that channels the energy, talent, and ambition of UT students toward one of the world's most pressing challenges: bringing reliable electricity and clean water to communities that lack both.

Our proximity to GivePower's global headquarters gives us something no other university chapter has — direct access to the engineers, operators, and decision-makers deploying Solar Water Farms and off-grid solar systems across 32 countries. Students don't just hear about impact; they walk the same halls where that impact is planned and measured.

What began as a small group of passionate Longhorns has grown into a multi-committee organization spanning engineering, research, fundraising, and service. Whether we are designing micro-grid prototypes, conducting desalination membrane research in the Kumar Lab, or traveling abroad to install solar panels on schools, every effort feeds into a single mission: power the world with clean energy and deliver safe drinking water to those who need it most.

More Than Awareness — Real Research, Real Impact

Most campus organizations raise awareness or host fundraisers. UT GivePower does both — and goes further. Through our partnership with Dr. Manish Kumar's Environmental Engineering Lab in the Cockrell School, students contribute to peer-reviewed research on desalination membranes and water-purification technologies that directly improve GivePower's Solar Water Farms around the world.

This research pipeline is what makes our chapter unique. Members don't just learn about clean-water technology in a classroom; they prototype it in the lab, test it in the field, and see it deployed in communities across Kenya, Colombia, and beyond. It is hands-on, career-building work that turns undergraduates into practitioners — not just advocates.

THE FOUNDATION

GivePower Foundation

GivePower is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Austin, Texas. Because its parent company GoodLeap covers all administrative costs, 100% of donations go directly to programs — powering schools with solar energy and delivering clean water through Solar Water Farms in communities that need it most.
